"A drunkard will be sober in the morning, but a fool will always remain a fool."
This line has stuck in my head since purim (obviously I wasn't that drunk) I heard it at one of the many purim parties I had gone to, one rabbi said this story about a respectable chosid/rabbi who got drunk on purim, and as he was walking down the street one of the village people started mocking him, how can such a respectable rabbi get drunk like this? To which the chosid replied, A DRUNK WILL BE SOBER IN THE MORNING, BUT A FOOL WILL ALWAYS BE A FOOL!

What great words of wisdom. Alas, the poor fool who has no choice... he was born that way....
Some peoplemake themselves foolish, it just takes longer to sober up from.
FG: Is a fool born a fool, or is it just something he grows into? Is there really no choice in foolishness?
A fool always has the option of being silent and listening/learning, and yet he doesnt, but we all know for a drunk, silence is not a option :)
"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
NEMO: good point, a foolish hangover is the worst.
Amen!
good vort, but the drunk will be remembered as one even when he sobers up!
DOVID:...and then?
PRAG: Depends what kinda drunk we are talking about, some drunks are worth remembering, i have heard plenty of inspirational words and positive vorts (and even some great secrets) from drunks... so drunks arent really that bad.
On the other hand i have yet to hear a word of wisdom, or something truly inspirational from a fool.
wise words.
and good quotes in previous post!!
:)
it originally a quote from churchill:
woman: "churchill, your drunk"
churchill: "and your ugly. but i'll be sober in the morning"
footnote: another churchill quote:
woman "if i was your wife, i would poison you.
churchill "if i was your husband i would drink it"
sometimes the simpelest things have profound wisdom, so a fool, without realizing it, could say some very instructive things.
Besides becoming drunk it an act of foolishness.
ya, it comes from winston churchill...
SARAH: thanks, glad you enjoyed them.
Me: (me who?) I know that Churchill quote, but who says it originates from him? perhaps the rabbi was the original :0
Really liked the second quote though, got me surfing the net and reading up on his quotes, he really has got some good ones.
PRAG: there is a difference between simple and foolish, simple can be humble, quiet or whatever, a fool however is simply said a fool, and i don't think you will get much profound wisdom from a fool. (unless you want to show someone how NOT to act)
Sorry but i don't agree with the becoming drunk is a act of foolishness comment, truth is i cant, i would be a fool if i did agree :p
SABRA: ...and i say it doesn't.
In conslusion, there is nothing worse then a drunken fool!
Very "SHTARK"
What about this one;
Ignorance can be fixed, but stupidity is forever.
MOOCHY & G GREEN: Thanx and welcome.
KASAMBA: Good one, some more on that,
"Ignorance is innocence - stupidity comes with experience"
"Ignorance is not bliss - it is oblivion"
"Genius has limitations - stupidity is boundless"
Hmmm ... a shik'r zol zein shik'r in di morgn ... a nar bleibt a nar.
I think, though ... a drunk wil always be a drunk ... but he won't always BE drunk.
